Ahhhh, tonight was the night. And what a glorious night it was!
When we first got to Westgate, I was seeing quite a few of both Thrasher and Coyotes fans but then it seemed like there were more Thrasher fans. Once inside though, it was easy to see there were many more Coyotes fans out. We discovered the new collectors cup. $7 and $3 refills for the rest of the season. It’s like the Harkins cup but for hockey. Great idea!
When the Thrashers hit the ice, there were some pretty good boos going on. The crowd only got louder when the Coyotes stepped out onto the ice. The crowd was loud during the opening ceremony. The new video intro was awesome! I was very impressed with the all the new videos and that they are really running with this hockey the hard way/pack mentality idea. I also thought it was great that they let a 15 year season ticket holder drop the puck.
I leaned over and told my buddy that we were going to get a goal off the opening faceoff. Fortunately I wasn’t too far off. Langkow scored 34 seconds into the first and the place erupted! The feel in the arena was like a playoff game but better. The Coyotes fans did a great job of drowning out the Thrasher fans. Whenever they tried to get the “go jets go” chant going, we’d respond, louder, with a lets go coyotes.
I said last year that OEL was sick but he has improved so much over the summer. His two goals were amazing. And Whitney helped seal the deal with the Coyotes 4th goal. The Thrashers got one goal in there somewhere. Their fans got a little excited but then they realized they were still losing and got all depressed.
It was a little disappointing that Doan didn’t get his 300th but there is plenty of time. The man is a beast! And love that BizNasty again didn’t give into the chirping and drop the gloves. There was no reason to. This shows why he is more mature than say Carcillo who would have jumped at any fight and possible changed the games outcome. Shows true maturity and good hockey sense on Biz’s part.
I think I howled, cheered, chanted and yelled the entire game. My vocal chords were not quite ready for hockey season yet… I haven’t lost my voice yet. I am glad I was at the game. It was a great atmosphere and a great game. This team is really starting to come together and playing quite well. They are playing the full 60 minutes. Their passing looks great. And despite what the dumbass red wing fan in front of me said, we should not have traded Yandle. He does not suck and no, we don’t need Bryz.
Obviously the Thrasher fans aren’t really doing their jobs in cheering the team to victory… Even their coach has something to say about it:
“I’m not frustrated, I’m disappointed,” Winnipeg coach Claude Noel said, “and I’m not sure what we’re waiting for. It looks like our team thinks we have a free pass to fail.”
Also, met Kane and Vrbata’s agent on the way in. He startled me in the parking lot so we started talking to him and he just tells us he’s Radim’s agent. We finally know how to really pronounce Radim. Its Ra-dim not Ra-deem. Who know?
I had someone watching the game but he said there were no fun Tysonisms tonight 🙁 I am slightly disappointed. We can reminisce about the time Tyson said sharted on the air. That is always a classic. 🙂
I tried to take some pictures but I was cheering and clapping and they may be a bit blurry. If I have some time tomorrow, I will crop, resize and post.
Have a good nights Yotes fans and know that the Thrashers are still the Thrashers. The only team without a point in the NHL. 😉
