Coco Crisp has had trouble at the plate all year long and has heard all about it, tonight, Crisp answered back to the trade rumor talk as he went 4-4 with two runs, two RBI’s, and two homeruns in the 9-4 loss against the Atlanta Braves (38-33).
Curt Schilling, on the other hand, had anything but a Crisp type performance for the Boston Red Sox (44-25) only lasting 4.1 innings, 10 hits, six earned runs, two walks, zero strikeouts, and one homerun.
The last time Schilling (6-4) did not throw a strikeout in a start was in 1993 and this is his second poor start in a row for the Sox.
Boston jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second as Crisp hit his first of two homeruns off of Braves starter Chuck James (6-6) to left field.
James who gave up two homeruns to Crisp did settle down and got the win for the Braves going 5.1 innings, on five hits, two earned runs, four walks, four strikeouts, and two homeruns.
Brian McCann also helped James pick up his sixth win of the season. Coming off of a 3-22 road trip McCann was 2-4 with an RBI double to left in the fourth inning making it 2-1 then James helped his own cause dumping a single to left field pushing the score to 3-1.
McCann got his second hit of the night on a homerun off of Schilling to right center that scored Edgar Renteria and Chipper Jones giving the Braves a 6-1 lead.
Crisp connected for his second homerun in the top of the sixth off of James, that ended his night, again to left field adding a run for the Sox and making the game a little bit closer at 6-2.
J.D. Drew’s homerun in the top of the seventh became an after thought as Scott Thorman launched a two run homer off of Mike Timlin that jumped the score to 9-3.
Pedroia scored a run in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch, but the Sox chance at a rally ended quickly as Bob Wickman came in and got Mike Lowell to ground out to short to end the game.
