Crosstown Shootout (Classic) Headed Back to Campuses This Year

<![CDATA[Breaking news from Fox 19:

Starting this year, the Crosstown Classic Shootout is back on the campuses of Xavier and Cincinnati. There was a lot of talk that Mick Cronin did not want the series to go back to home and home, but he must have changed his mind or he was overruled.

The last time the teams played on the campuses, there was a giant fight. You might have heard about it. The last two seasons have seen games at US Bank Arena. The series should continue at UC. This also means we are coming closer to a schedule being released slash announced.

Going back to the campuses will hopefully put some fire back in the rivalry. The two games at US Bank were a 15 point UC victory and a 17 point Xavier win this season. None of the last 4 games were particularly good. 15 points was the smallest margin of victory. The last close game was the double OT game in the 2010 season. That’s the only single digit meeting in the last 6 contests. Atmosphere has been lacking for the ‘neutral’ site games, with people making comments about attendance on both sides.

This also adds some fuel to the fire that UC is going to move out of 5/3 Arena. If US Bank is off the table as a neutral site, you kind of have to move the games back to home and home. It’s something to take even more seriously.]]>
