The Syracuse Crunch shut out the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 2-0 tonight at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

The win gives the Crunch a 2-1 edge in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Final series. Game 4 will be Friday, May 29 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Crunch netminder Cedrick Desjardins stopped all 22 shots he faced for his ninth victory this postseason. The Crunch penalty kill unit successfully stopped all five Penguins power play chances.

After a scoreless first period the Crunch took a 1-0 lead 7:29 into the middle stanza with Vlad Namestnikov’s first professional postseason goal. Namestnikov picked up the rebound of an Ondrej Palat shot and carried the puck around the right circle before blasting a shot from the high slot past Brad Thiessen.

Neither team was able to score in the third frame until J.T. Brown secured the win with an empty net goal with 4.8 seconds to play.
