The Miami Heat are on an impressive 20-game winning streak. They’re steam-rolling most of the competition and, even in their close games, they’re making some spectacular plays to keep the streak going.
Yep… it’s pretty damn impressive. That is, unless you’re a member of the Boston Celtics. In that case, you don’t give a damn.
“Not really impressed with it or anything that they do,” said Terry, who of course has a history with Miami from his Dallas days when the two teams met in the 2011 Finals. “So, for me, it’s more about what our team is doing and how we’re coming together as a unit.”
There it is. Pretty blunt, but with the sprinkled in “it’s more about us” type of stuff at the end.
What about the captain? He did say he was impressed… before adding….
“I really don’t even care. I hope they lose every game for the rest of the season. I’ll just worry about what this team does.”
I’d call that comment “indifferent” sprinkled with a healthy amount of “disdain.” Pierce was spitting fire today in his quotes. I love this one on trying to win the Atlantic Division:
“I’m sure if we hung up Atlantic Division banners up here we’d be looking a lot more closely at them, but right now we’re floating under the radar, trying to win as many games as possible. We don’t even get a T-shirt for that.”
Hmmmmm… you know who DOES hang division banners?
Doc Rivers did admit to the impressive nature of the Heat streak… but then added the following quote to make it seem the first part of it was just “being nice for the media.”
“I don’t really care,” he said. “We’re going to play them one way or another, whether they have a streak, or coming off a loss. We’ll be ready, I’m sure they will be.”
I like that the groundwork is being laid for a showdown. It’ll be interesting to see how the C’s match up against Miami with all their injuries… but you can tell from their attitudes that they’re not afraid of Miami at all.
