C’s signing Brazilian center Vitor Faverani

The Celtics are apparently stockpiling Brazilian centers (WE’RE COMING FOR YOU NENE!!!!) with the impending signing of Vitor Faverani.  I’ll be honest, I don’t know anything about him, but our good friend Jeff Garcia from Project Spurs is quite well versed in international hoops.  In fact, he worked out for the Spurs earlier this month.

According to our good friends over at Spurs Brazil, Faverani’s current team, Valencia (former team of Tiago Splitter and Nando De Colo), let him travel to San Antonio simply for workout sessions. It is highly unlikely the big man from Brazil makes the squad.

Vitor is a 259 lbs., 6’11” center. With Valencia in the Spanish league, he averaged 9.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and shot 59% from the field in 23 games.

Here are his full stats from the ACB league in Spain, which Jeff tells me is one of the best in the country, and in Europe.  Here are some highlights:

Jeff calls Faverani slow-footed, but physical and unafraid to do the dirty work.  I’m not sure what this signing means for Colton Iverson, who displayed similar characteristics in Orlando.  It’s also interesting to see what the impact will be on Fab Melo.

Contract details are unknown at the moment.
