After Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram were the two consensus picks to go 1 and 2 in the 2016 NBA Draft, the third pick is a mystery for who is going to Beantown. Danny Ainge and the front office have been on the phones looking for a trade as Philadelphia was the front runner to make a negotiable deal but the C’s kept the pick and they have selected Jaylen Brown, freshman small forward out of California. A “physical specimen” according to ESPN analyst Jay Bilas, Brown stands at 6’6-6’7 and weighs around 225 pounds and plays with integrity.
Brown averaged around 14 points a game and grabbed 5 rebounds a game and played hard in his only season at Cal as he forewent his remainder amount of years at Cal to enter the Draft.
Brown, who does not have an agent according to ESPN, is going to compromise his contract with the Celtics and fellow players around him have told him to “enjoy the process” and remember that you are still a kid and you should enjoy that you are still extremely young.
Brown personally reminds me of a P.J. Hairston type of player, a guard and forward that is big in size but is quick on his feet and has power when driving to the hoop and has the ability to shoot the mid range jumper. Brown will fit right into the C’s system as a tweener (3 or 4) and he should complement well with Jae Crowder, Marcus Smart, and Avery Bradley.
A risky player at 3 but the reward is sweet, Jaylen Brown is a physical specimen that has all the tools to become a very versatile player in this league and if he stays with the Celtics (trades), he can be a very good player for years to come in this league and for the Celtics.
Welcome to Boston Jaylen!
