As I was flipping through the different games on MLB.tv, as I often do after the Tigers are done for the night, I stumbled upon something I haven’t seen in sports since that fateful November night in Detroit when a fan threw a cup full of beer on Ron Artest as he layed on the scorer’s table. With the Phillies up 12-3 in the bottom of the 5th, the Cubs hit a deep fly ball to the 368 sign in left center. As Victorino was about to catch the ball to record the 2nd out of the inning, he also caught $8.50 worth of beer in his eye. Amazingly, Victorino was not phased and still caught the ball.
Almost immediately after the toss, the idiot who threw the beer cup wouldn’t stop grinning and kept looking around as if he wanted people to praise him for his stupidity. According to some Tweets from people with knowledge of the situation, security tossed the wrong fan originally because the guy actually had the balls to blame his buddy. PTIShow cleared up the confusion real quick, as it seems security wound up tossing the group of friends, including the person guilty of being a major douche bag. If you’re interested in a screen shot play-by-play, with captions, of the moron tossing beer on Victorino, click read more. (Maybe this will be my thing….)
With a 12-3 lead, Victorino thinks he is about to make a routine grab and leisurely toss the ball back into the infield as the runner on third with less than 2-outs means absolute crap. Fan’s thoughts: Heh heh! Not so fast. /one last sip, here goes last week’s pay check.
As Victorino feels for the wall which isn’t really a concern despite the fact he’s on the warning track, dumbass fan times the fly ball perfectly before he heaves the $8.50 beverage, cup included (and I reluctantly use “fan times fly ball perfectly” as it sort of connotates that I’m applauding such an action).
