Matt Hayes of The Sporting News had a nice feature on Bill O’Brien and how his son gives him the strength he needs to do a good job. As a bonus, you get a video of Donnie Collins (The Times Tribune) talking about Matt McGloin being named the starting quarterback in front of a bed.

If you missed it yesterday, 115 games (and counting) received official kickoff times for the upcoming college football season. Penn State’s home games against Ohio and Navy were included. Tom Dienhart ranked the linebacker units in the Big Ten for Big Ten Network. Penn State comes in at number two.

ESPN released their team recruiting rankings for the Class of 2013. Not surprisingly, Michigan leads everybody. Penn State is ranked No. 14.

The Big Ten announced the conference’s 2012 Medal of Honor recipients yesterday. Two student-athletes from each Big Ten school’s graduating class are recognized for their high achievements in athletics and academics. Miguel Pineda (men’s gymnastics) and Erin Thomas (women’s swimming) were this years recipients from Penn State.

In Scores of Other Games…

Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins and Wisconsin center were the only football players awarded the Big Ten Medal of Honor.

A player from Minnesota’s 1967 team received a kidney transplant from that season’s trainer. They reunited at an alumni event five years ago.
