St. Louis radio personality and ‘your best friend in the whole wide world’, Curt Copeland (96.3 FM) has a new endeavor…
St. LOUau, a Cardinals-themed tiki bar.
Now, this isn’t a reality yet. Copeland and his business partner Dana Kay Goddard plan on creating a Kickstarter (launches OCT 7/will update this post with info) to help fund the bar.
From the Riverfront Times:
“I’ve always wanted to open a bar, and I chose tiki because it is my favorite kind of bar,” Copeland explains. “It’s going to be like that Trader Vic’s 1970s vibe — borderline tacky with all of the classic tiki drinks.” As for the Cardinals connection, Copeland says that he wanted the place to be much more than just a bar, but a way to express his love for the Gateway City. “And I’m the biggest, most ridiculous Cardinals fan,” he laughs.
Now before you laugh off the idea, just know that tiki bars are a thing in other cities. In fact, one of the most popular bars in the Chicago Loop is Three Dots and a Dash – a tiki bar.
Will St. Louis respond to the idea?
Copeland and Goddard envision St. LOUau as a destination style entertainment complex — somewhere with live music, a festive atmosphere and cheap food and drinks. “We want people to come here not because it is just a bar or a place to eat but because of the experience,” Goddard notes. “We are banking on volume. We’ll have live music every night and happy hour pricing all of the time. It’s going to be a place where you know you are getting a deal.”
Cardinals baseball? Cheap drinks? Live music? I’m not saying it’s going to work. But the formula for a success seems to be in place. In fact, the first tiki bar in STL has already opened in The Grove neighborhood – Taha’a Twisted Tiki.
Full disclosure – I’ve met Mr. Copeland a few times over the years and he’s on the short list of best Cardinals fans. Dude loves this team. He has his bonafides.
So if you have some disposable income and would like to get in on the ground floor of this idea… consider backing.
Aloha.
