Czech Olympic team includes Sobotka, excludes Polak

The Czech Olympic roster was unveiled on Monday and it had one name you might be familiar with. Vladimir Sobotka will be one of the forwards on the Czech squad, as seen on the Sporting News. Sobotka, 26, has tallied six goals and 14 assists in 35 games with the Blues this season, but his real value is in his outstanding skills in the face-off circle and his versatile two-way play.

Roman Polak was likely excluded from the Czech roster due to an ankle injury he suffered in September. Polak is still on the IR and it’s probable that those in charge of the Czech roster didn’t believe he’d be 100% by the time the tournament rolls around at the beginning of February.

While it’s disappointing that Roman didn’t receive the call, his exclusion makes sense. From a St. Louis perspective, it’s nice knowing he can rest over the Olympic break.
