Real nice of NESN to release this news on a Saturday. Dale Arnold is no longer doing Bruins games for NESN. Jack Edwards will do all of the games, both home and away for the network. Dale and Jack had been splitting duties, Arnold doing the home games, Jack traveling with color analyst Andy Brickley. Dale had been offered other duties for B’s games, but declined. Here’s the official announcement from NESN. I feel bad for Dale. He’s a solid announcer, but he has not wanted the heavy travel schedule, so doing the home games was perfect for him, but as with the Red Sox broadcasts with Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy, NESN wanted one play-by-play guy to go with Brick for Bruins telecasts. David Scott of Boston Sports Media Watch had hinted at this (scroll to the bottom) a couple of weeks ago, and was all over the story when it broke late Friday. NESN tried to bury this, but leave it to Bulldog Dave to talk about it.
One nice shot from Dave in regards to consistency in the booth:
The Sox themselves have created a similar problem by wedging earnest Glenn Geffner into the radio booth and now having to deal with a listenership that longs for a full-time Dave O’Brien with every passing Geff Game.
How right Dave is. Listening to Goof this weekend in Detroit was harsh. It was like painful rectal itch.
We’ll see if we can get reaction from Dale tomorrow on WEEI as well as covering the Dan Patrick “announcement”, whatever the hell it is and if it’ll even be made. Dan was promising us an announcement since last week, but he’s been off ever since July 4th so listeners have been left hanging for five days. Let’s see if it actually happens when the Dan Patrick show signs on tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET.
