Summer is in full swing, or at least it's about to be as the warmest weather we've see in Badgerland is about to hit us. It also means we're closing in on the kick off to the 2013 season – one where UW will be looking to do something only Ohio State has ever done – go to the Rose Bowl 4 straight years.
Part of that plan rests on the shoulders of Dallas Lewallen. It's a good thing he's got broad ones to say the least. He'll need them as he steps up to a starting role on the inside for his junior season with Ryan Groy likely to move to the left tackle spot vacated by the now NFL bound Rick Wagner.
Story at Wisconsin So Far:
– He has seen action every season at Wisconsin so far, but has appeared as a backup in just 6 games
– Lewallen was the 2010 Offensive Scout Team Player of the Year
– Standing at 6'6" and weighing in at 318lbs. he's got the perfect size to play at the guard spot and as long as he's healthy he's got the chance to break out as a potential star at guard.
History of No. 73 at Wisconsin:
Dan Lanphear (OT, 1957-59): We're going in the way back machine on this one, but hard to pass up telling you about an All-American and 1st team All-Big Ten player (1959) from an era that doesn't involve Barry Alvarez at Wisconsin. Was a member of the All-Time team put together in 1969 to honor the 100 year anniversary of college football. Lanphear also was a track athlete at the UW, captaining the 1960 team. He was incudted into the UW Hall of Fame in 2010
