It has only been a little over two months since light welterweight Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (13-0-2, 9 KO’s) from Dallas, Texas stepped into the ring, and this time he returns to California to defend his undefeated record against Lauro Alcantar (8-2, 1KO) of Agua Prieta (dark water), Mexico.  And this time, the tall and tough Mighty Mo who trains out of the Maple Avenue Boxing Gym in Dallas, Texas, took his training to San Diego, California.  He was sent there by his manager Arnie Verbeek to fine-tune himself for his upcoming bout under the tutelage of head trainer Vincent Parra.

The fight will be held at the Fantasy Springs Casino, in Indio California and it is promoted by San Diego’s boxing promoter, Bobby D. Presents.  Mighty Mo will be part of a seven-bout card but those who know him, know that his fight will be one of the most exciting fights of the night.  It will be packed with punches from all angles by the undefeated light welterweight and his straight right hand will be a big factor in the fight.  Alcantar is no slouch as his record reflects, and he will be tested in this scheduled eight round bout.

Mighty Mo is returning to the ring after winning his last fight by unanimous decision against Adrian Garza (8-3, 6KO’s) of Mexico.  NTF caught up with Mighty Mo on Wednesday and he told us that in addition to his boxing regimen, “I have been running in the mountains to gain extra endurance in the fight.”  If he goes into the later rounds of his fight, it looks like stamina will not be an issue.  As a matter of fact, he said “I am ready to go ten rounds,” although he is only scheduled to go eight.

Mighty Mo knows that his opponent is tall like him, so one of his plans is to “fight him on the inside and go to the body.”  He also told NTF that he plans on using his left hook to the body and the head, which is something he has worked on in his training camp.  In addition to his head trainer Vincent Parra, his corner will include MABG trainers Coach Ali and Manny Hernando.  As for how long the fight will last, Mighty Mo told NTF that he plans on taking his opponent out in the fourth.
