Dan Patrick Leaving ESPN?

In the midst of a heavy workday. I’ll provide links when I can, but for now, we’re hearing word that Dan Patrick plans to leave ESPN and will make an announcement on his radio show starting at 1 p.m. Eastern Time. We’ll keep an ear out for this announcement, but he was supposed to make one on Wednesday, only to take the day off and have Bob Valvano sub for him.

The Big Lead was all over it as was the Sports Media Watch Blog, but it was Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune to discover that Patrick has about a 90% chance of leaving the Alleged Worldwide Leader. Patrick was apparently offered the Price is Right hosting job, but turned it down.

Dan has been one of the few bright spots on ESPN. He and Keith Olbermann did SportsCenter together in the mid-1990’s, then were reunited on Patrick’s radio show in 2004. In addition to hosting SportsCenter, Dan has been host of ABC’s NBA Countdown pre-game show and the NBA Draft. But now, he’s apparently leaving ESPN after a storied career.

It would be a big loss for the ESPN, leaving it with Chris Berman, Brent Musberger and Stuart Scott as main hosts. We’ll listen in and post the news here.

I’ll be back with links later.
