1. Marcus Mariota
The former Heisman frontrunner, recently announcing he’s returning for his junior year, is finally healthy, able to show off the dual-threat ability that made him college football’s most dangerous quarterback. He’s liable to break loose with a huge game. Mariota was MVP of the Fiesta Bowl as a redshirt freshman. With both legs under him, watch out.
2. Thomas Tyner
Fresh off a career-best game in the Civil War in which he carried 22 times for 140 yards, including a 40-yard run on his first carry, a 13-yard td run and a 24-yard burst on 3rd and 13 in the fourth quarter, Tyner is fully unleashed at the end of a solid freshman season (Scott Olmos, USA Today Sports Images).
With the bowl game to go he has 689 yards, 9 tds, 6.3 yards per carry, while running mate Byron Marshall, who missed the Civil War with an injury, closes in on a 1,000-yard season, 995 yards and 6.4 a carry. The Longhorns allowed 550 rushing yards to BYU’s spread offense early in the year, and 221 to injury-riddled Baylor and the Bears spread attack in their last game.
3. Josh Huff and Bralon Addison
The Texas twosome paced the Oregon receivers this year with consistent, clutch play, and Huff is challenging Oregon’s all-time marks for yards and tds in a season.
Playing before family and friends in their home state, the two are likely to put on a show, and Addison could join Huff as a 1,000-yard receiver with a big day:
