Imagine you wake up one Sunday…ready to watch football..so you have to decide which team your going to watch..because your team isnt playing anymore. They are gone, defunct. Kinda like 17 bye weeks…no Bucs to watch again…ever. Think its far fetched? Tell that to the people of Houston, St. Louis, Baltimore or any other NFL city that has lost an NFL team after fans became so disenfranchised with a team, they stop coming out. So were clear, Im NOT trolling or predicting doom. Im trying to PREVENT that.
It’s not there yet, but go ahead and fire Lovie Smith, while the Glazers are still paying Greg Schiano’s salary. Youll get another coach who wont like the guys on the team because they are not “Their” guys. Who knows, maybe the next coach will be Bill Cowher, who is a 3-4 guy. Gerald McCoy is not a 3-4 lineman, so hes traded. Lots of players get moved, and the new coach, no matter who he is, goes 3-13 the next year.
The team fumbles alot, penalties, inexcusable play, blamed again on the coach…who is fired, and we repeat, rinse, and lather.
Before you know it, its 2018-19 and youve got 15,000 people at Bucs games, and Tampa Bay is off to London, Los Angeles, or wherever, and Tampa…instead of rallying for a SuperBowl, is trying to get a new franchise.
Think this doesnt happen? You all have access to the internet, look up attendence figures for home games before some of the legendary franchises were before THEY left due to fan apathy.
1979 Bucs at Baltimore COLTS attendance 35,000 (it got worse before 1983 when they left)
1987 Bucs at St. Louis CARDINALS attendance 22,000
1995 Bucs at Houston OILERS attendance 31,000
These numbers were taken a few years BEFORE the teams left…The Colts and Cardinals got down to empty stadiums, 8-10 thousand people in the stands.
Scott Reynolds of Pewter Report, who was all over Lovie Smith last year about his defense which is old and outdated (even though the Jags, Cowboys, Seahawks, Panthers, now Falcons are all using it just fine). They didnt say boo when the Bucs defense improved.
What they dont realize is the defense HAS improved, they just dont seem to care or want to see it. Anything to call out and try to be the first person to call something shocking, and if it comes true, Scott Reynolds loves to tell you how he was first to bring you that news.
Sad thing is Reynolds does get good news, but If I were the Bucs Id never let him on One Buc again. I would urge my readers to not go to his site anymore, I wont. His article is dangerous, report the sports news, dont try to beat your own drum so loud so we cant hear anyone else. rest assured Ill be the first to email reynolds when the Bucs turn this around under him.
