As John pointed out in today’s Morning Dump, the sudden speculation about the Celtics trading for DeMarcus Cousins is waaaay premature. And none other than Danny Ainge agrees with him.
This morning, the Celtics president made his weekly appearance on the Toucher & Rich radio show, where he was asked hypothetically if he would trade for a player who has great talent marred by serious personality issues.
Danny knew the hosts meant Cousins, but dodged the question since league rules prohibit him from talking about specific players. He also deflected a query about the 2016 Nets draft pick that the Celtics own.
Ainge’s advice to fans was that it’s too soon to talk about trades and everyone should relax. Not that anyone will listen to him.
The other headline to come from the interview was Ainge’s opinion that the 1985-86 Celtics team was the NBA’s “greatest of all-time.” That squad went 67-15 in the regular season (including 40-1 at home), and 15-3 in the playoffs (10-0 at home) to win the NBA title.
