This season for the Philadelphia 76ers has not been any different from the last two seasons. It’s the same “Trust the Process” motto with consecutive long streaks and another high draft pick. This past summer, the Sixers selected Jahlil Okafor and he has been as advertised. Despite, Okafor’s solid play, the team is still 1-27 in line for another top five pick.
But before they can think about another top pick, the Sixers have another rookie waiting in the wings from the 2014 NBA Draft. Croatian forward Dario Saric, who was selected with the 12th overall pick by the Orlando Magic and then traded to the Sixers, reiterated in an interview with Slam N’ Roll translated by Sportando that he still plans to join the Sixers this upcoming summer.
“I’m always in touch with the people of Philadelphia, I always talk with GM Sam Hinkie and coach Brett Brown,” Saric said. “We talk about a lot of things that have to do with me and the 76ers. Before I was drafted, I promised to Efes that I will come here for two years and of course I promised to Philadelphia that after these period of time, I will go to them. It is a certain procedure that I feel I have to pass through.”
For the Sixers, this is great news that Saric is still committed to them despite the slow rebuilding process. In the recent weeks, the Sixers hired Jerry Colangelo and Mike D’Antoni to give the organization a better sense of direction going forward to help accelerate the rebuilding process.
This season with Efes, Saric is averaging 10.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 20.6 minutes per game.
If Saric performs well when he arrives in Philadelphia, then this team could be trending upwards towards making some noise in the Eastern Conference.
