The Red Sox needed a spark to get the team out of the rut they were in and Darnell McDonald provided it in a big way. After being called up from the PawSox earlier in the day, McDonald hit a 2-run homer over the monster to tie the game in his first plate appearance as a pinch hitter in the eighth. With two outs and bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth he came to the plate again and hit a walk-off single.
