New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis has been the talk of the league for his worst season to date.
It turns out it could be his last season.
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, someone close to Revis has suggested the cornerback doesn’t want to play anymore:
“He’s done,” a Revis confidant told the Daily News. “If he had his way, he’d be done right now. He doesn’t want to play anymore. He’s made a lot of money.”
While he can’t say for certain what Revis is thinking, the Revis confidant put the cornerback’s season this way: “He tanked it.”
Yikes. Revis has surrendered an uncanny amount of touchdowns this year, getting beat by guys from A.J. Green to rookies. It certainly looks like a tank job, but his veteran status shouldn’t go ignored—every skill player starts to fall off with age.
Whether this is true or not, the Jets have a decision to make with Revis next March, when a roster bonus goes live. The Jets need as much cap space as possible, with Revis boasting one of the team’s better contracts.
Unless the Jets think Revis can (and wants to) to turn it around, odds are he won’t be in New York next year.
