Darrin Horn Job Status, Day 2

As we mentioned yesterday, speculation is high but not definite that Darrin Horn’s tenure as the head coach of the South Carolina men’s basketball program may be coming to a end.

As noted, the athletic director, Eric Hyman, is to meet with Coach Horn to conduct the season-ending assessment of the program as he does every year this week. If a change is going to be made it was not going to be today as the women’s basketball team gets the spotlight. They were selected for NCAA postseason play (congrats).

However, attention turns to what will happen with Coach Horn.

Not much else to report on Day 2, just specualtion and rumors growing. Visit any Gamecocks message boards and you are bound to run across threads dealing with talk of potential coaches but that is premature as the first question has to be answered….Will Coach Horn be back for the 2012-2013 season?

Critics point to Horn’s record as the main reason he should be let go as the Gamecocks have won just seven SEC games in two years and have only won four of their past 24 regular-season SEC games. Horn’s overall record at USC stands at 60-63 and Horn has not won a postseason game in five tries (four SEC tournaments, one NIT game).

Supporters feel he can turn around the ship and needs more time to build the program his way.

If USC fires fourth-year coach Darrin Horn, who makes about $1.1 million per year, the school will owe him $800,000 for each year left on his contract which is $2.4 million. Steep price to pay and is USC willing to bite the bullet?

Not saying Tuesday is D-day but we should start to hear more related to this matter…stay tuned….
