Dave Bush continued one of the best in-season turnarounds in recent Brewers’ history. After being sent down to Nashville earlier in the season, Bush has now pitched two great games in a row. Bush shut down the Braves offense allowing only one run and four hits over seven innings Tuesday night. He walked just one and struck out five to pick up his fourth win of the season.
The offense gave Bush an early lead as Ryan Braun singled in Rickie Weeks for the first run in the top of the first inning. Corey Hart followed that up with a fielder’s choice in which JJ Hardy scored the second run. JJ Hardy drove in a run in the second as he doubled to left field that scored Jason Kendall. The Brewers scored their last run in the fourth inning when a Rickie Weeks sac fly scored Jason Kendall.
The only run Bush gave up was in the seventh in which Mark Teixeira scored on an Omar Infante ground out. Bush has now gone three straight starts without giving up a home run, which any Brewers fan will tell you just how huge that is.
Brian Shouse came on and worked a scoreless eighth. Salomon Torres came on in the ninth for the save but ran into trouble. After a walk to Kelly Johnson, Teixeira hit a two-run homer to bring the Braves to within one. Torres gave up another walk and one more hit but worked his way out of the jam to record his 13th save of the season.
The Brewers continue their hot streak and are now nine games over .500. The Crew go for the sweep tomorrow as Jeff Suppan will take the mound for the Brewers. Suppan looks to rebound after his terrible outing against the Orioles last Friday night.
