David Backes is considered day-to-day and will miss potentially the final few games of the regular season. Backes hobbled off when he blocked a shot and fell awkwardly against the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night.
.@dbackes42 wont play tonight. Hitchcock said he could potentially miss three games but will play after that. #stlblues

This looks like the exact definition of a “if he had to play, he would” injury. Backes needs some time to mend and that might be exactly what the forward needs in order to be the key offensive piece the Blues are counting on. At the very least, it’s good to hear he isn’t expected to miss any playoff time.
