David Backes named a top-50 fantasy hockey asset

If you’re preparing for a fantasy hockey draft and you’re trying to figure out which member of the St. Louis Blues you should target first, NHL.com has your answer. David Backes was named as one of the league’s top-50 player in the world of fantasy hockey. Specifically, he came in 35th on their list and was the lone representative from the Blues.

Here’s what NHL.com had to say about Backes:

In the past five years, only four players have had a season with 25-plus goals, 55-plus points, 100-plus PIMs and a rating of plus-10 or better. Backes did it last season and could do so again in 2014-15.

Backes is one of few forwards in the NHL who contribute across multiple categories. In leagues where penalty minutes are a good thing (most leagues), Backes is a prized asset. Though his 2010-11 where he scored 31 times and added 31 assists seems like an outlier, Backes is still a worthy option of a second or third-round pick on draft day.
