Will David Backes be able to play in Game 3? Better yet, will he be able to return at any point during the series against Chicago? These are the questions Blues fans are asking one day removed from Brent Seabrook’s dirty hit on the St. Louis captain.
Backes’ status can be summarized with one word: Uncertainty.
Via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, coach Ken Hitchcock isn’t revealing much about the situation.
I have no idea … I have no idea right now. I know one thing: he couldn’t play today. All I know is he’s upright…that’s about it right now. We don’t have any further information and probably won’t until late tomorrow.
That doesn’t really reveal much. Backes looked awful immediately following the hit. You could tell he was angry, but that he had no idea what was happening or even who delivered the shot to his head. The obvious assumption is that he suffered a concussion, but no details have been released.
A safe guess would be that Backes will miss Game 3 on Monday night. It’d be pretty shocking to see him in the lineup after watching him stumble around on the ice.
