Brewers’ starter Dave Bush dominates Houston on Sunday Houstonians tend to like people named Bush–George Herbert Walker, Laura, Barbara…even DubYa–they even named their airport after one. But not any Bushes named David. David Bush’s outing Sunday against the Astros was his best so far this season: 8+ IP, 2 ER’s, 7 K’s, 5 hits, and only 1 walk on 108 pitches with 76 for strikes. The complete game effort ended, however, in the 9th, after Bush tired and gave up a leadoff double to Chris Burke, then walking former Brewer Mark Loretta, and then serving up a double to Lance Berkman, plating Burke. Yost wisely yanked Bush and went to Cordero, who walked Carlos Lee, fanned Luke Scott, and then gave up a hit to Morgan Ensberg, that plated Loretta, before walking Adam Everett, with the bases loaded, to score Berkman and cut the lead to just a lone run. Cordero then fanned Orlando Palmeiro, causing Phil “Scrap Iron” Garner to opt for Craig Biggio to pinch-hit, but no 9th inning heroics this time–Biggio popped out to give Bush the win. Bush is now 2-1, with a 5.04 ERA. At the plate, it was the outfielders’ turn to go nuts–both Billy Hall and Geoff Jenkins went 3-for-4, each driving in a run and scoring a run (Hall actually scored two)…Hall homered in the 4th off of Oswalt, while Jenkins hit a pair of doubles. The Crew finishes their homestand having taken 2 of 2 from the Pirates, then 2 of 3 from the Astros (which, according to the FSN Wisconsin guys was the first time in 10 years that the Crew took a series from the Astros). The Crew takes their 11-7 first place record on the road for three in Chicago, followed by three more in Houston after an off day on Thursday…the Brewers are 1 up in the loss column on the Astros, and 3 up on the remaining four division opponents…the Crew, then, already have targets on their backs.
