David Ortiz Auctions Off Home Run Derby Gear for Charity

Boston, MA – July 19, 2010 –  With one of the biggest swings in baseball, David Ortiz hit 32 Home Runs in the 2010 Home Run Derby and took home the title. Showing that he also has one of the biggest hearts in the game, David Ortiz will auction off the bat, cleats and batting gloves he used to make history as the first Red Sox Slugger to hold the title.  All proceeds raised in the auction will benefit the David Ortiz Children’s Fund, a non-profit organization committed to providing critical pediatric services to children in New England and the Dominican Republic.

“Winning the 2010 Home Run Derby was a thrill to me and I wanted to share that with all the fans of baseball,” said David Ortiz, designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox.  “Most importantly, if offers an opportunity to raise funds for children who desperately need medical care.  The auction is a way for me to take this amazing event and use it to help the kids.”
