Big Papi can accept the arbitration offer from the Red Sox and make $12+ million next year but he and his agent are trying to get a multi-year deal, specifically a three year deal. The Herald is reporting that Ortiz already has multiple offers from other teams.
By reading the tea leaves you can see that the Red Sox are going to have to offer a two year deal if they want to land Ortiz quickly, otherwise they have to play chicken and be willing to let him walk if another team comes in with a bigger deal. I still think Big Papi will be back in Boston after all is said and done.
