Once the Red Sox won the World Series, I don't think there was any surprise to anyone that David Ortiz was named the World Series MVP. Sure, Jon Lester dominated in each of his starts and Koji Uehara made closing look easy, but when you put that up against the series that Papi had, it wasn't even a competition.
Papi put the team on his back and was on fire for the whole series. Ortiz finished the series with a .688 batting average, 7 runs, 11 hits, 2 homeruns, 6 RBIs, 7 walks and a .760 OBP. Basically, he was made of WIN!
And of course when they announce Papi was MVP and gave him his trophy, he said "Boston this is our BBBBLLLLEEEEEEEEPPPPP City!" Papi mentioned the win for the City of Boston following the tragedy of the Marathon Bombing and continued to be a image and voice of a healing city.
Big Papi sure lived up to his name.
