Davies (0-0, -.–) @ Wakefield (3-2, 3.61)

I’ll be gone until pretty much gametime, so my Renteria bashing article, Lyle Overbay love article, and Trot Nixon to left (see last three comments) article must wait for other days. Today, it’s a rookie pitcher making his debut for the Braves, a 21-year old phenom. Normally, we should smack him around the park, but as Mark observed in a previous column:

The last few years I have actually come to fear rookie pitchers, because it seems they don’t know enough to pitch around our patient hitters. They come right after our hitters, who are used not seeing good pitches and tend to take a few of them, and they often get themselves into good pitcher’s counts. Yesterday’s game, for example, the rook got burned for two home runs, but he didn’t get lit up or walk a ton of guys because we kept the bat on our shoulders too much (and staked him a huge lead).

We’ll have to see if the dancing knuckleball saves us this time. So basically leave your comments here before, during, and after the game about not only just the game but anything else you want to talk about.
Oh yes, while I make not be verklempt, I do have a topic of discussion thanks to Andrew for posting this in the comments yesterday:

EEI just said that Dougie went down with a ‘left wrist injury’, and that Shawn Wooten is in Boston to fill in. Someone somewhere mentioned though that they think the reason Zink was brought up to Pawtucket was to give Shoppach some experience with the knuckler, which would make Doug expendable via trade at some point. So, if true, that bodes well for Kelly…

Also, I read that Shoppach has thrown out 8 of 19 basestealers. Where’s that lousy arm, Sam?
