With San Antonio Spurs forward/center Tiago Splitter suffering a strained right calf injury in Saturday’s game and no timetable set for his return, the Spurs looked into their own backyard for some security at that spot.
The Spurs have called up Austin Toros forward Eric Dawson for a 10-day contract, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports.
Dawson is currently averaging 15.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game for the Toros. While undersized at 6-9, Dawson is a back-down big man who uses his body to seal his man under the basket and score down low, usualy with a short hook.
Dawson is also capable of squaring up his defender and shooting a jumper out to about 16 feet and the Toros often use him as a distributor with the ball going to him at the top of the key early or Dawson finding cutters.
Dawson was recently reaquired by the Toros on February 9. He played with the Toros last season before he was signed overseas after the D-League Showcase.
For Dawson, his signing with the Spurs is a dream come true. He grew up in San Antonio and attended Sam Houston High School before attending Midwestern State University.
