Day 6 morning practice notes

And the first of the Oakland Raiders two practices on the sixth day of Camp Cable at the Napa Valley Marriott is now in the books. Rookie Rolando McClain had some strong moments as well as some not so great ones. Overall the team is progressing well as they steam towards their first preseason game in eight days.

  • Chaz Schilens (foot) and Louis Murphy (concussion) both missed this practice session.

  • Rolando McClain was beat in man coverage by fullbacks Chane Moline and Manase Tonga.
  • McClain went vertical to break up a Jason Campbell pass over the middle, had a quarterback pressure that forced Campbell to throw the ball away, and was in position to blow up a Michael Bush run.
  • The Raiders quarterbacks were nearly perfect in 7 on 7 drills.
  • With Schilens they are being extra cautious. He had one setback, and they will need him once the bullets start flying.
  • With Murphy, this is how things are going to be with concussions from now on.
  • Stanford Routt seems to have turned a few heads.
  • Johnnie Lee Higgins dropped a pass with no defenders and got has backside chewed by Hue Jackson for not finishing a route. The bubble under him has to be getting thin.
