Defensive pressure on the QB is behind the Bucs leading the charge in the 2nd half

With all due respect to Styles G White who got the Bucs first sack of the game late in the first half that put the Panthers out of FG range, it’s the second half where Tampa Bay’s defense is taking control of their games. Turnovers especially, were the things that the classic Bucs defense under Monte Kiffin and Tony Dungy made famous. The turnovers are coming back, and they are coming back in the second half. Someone who was around back then, Ronde Barber, is joining in on the fun;

What does that mean? It means Barber is using his mind, studying film and knowing where to be. It’s this type of knowledge that allowed Derrick Brooks to play deep into his career, and now its Ronde Barber doing it in his 14th season as a Buccaneer player, 13th as its starter. Turnovers are where Tampa Bay seems to be really taking over on Defense, even going back to the end of last season. I know Coach Morris doesn’t like to talk about stuff from last year, but hey, we can! The Saints win in New Orleans was 17-3 going into the 4th; The Cleveland Browns were stifled in the 3rd and 4th periods too by this defense, so it’s becoming a pattern that we may be able to maintain. Taking the ball away by making a play up front, getting in the QBs face and forcing an errant throw. The pressure doesnt have to come from the D line, it can come from anywhere! Like LInebacker Quincy Black!

Love Gene Deckerhoff’s call on this one… “someone check if Moore is alrght!” And remember something else very important: Turnover on downs are just as important as any other kind of turnovers!! A sack on 3rd down does more than just causing an incompletion; you get to add about 7-10 more yards to the change of possession! Its clear the pressure will have to come from more sources than just the Defensive Line, and that’s fine as newcomers Brian Price and Gerald McCoy are working their way up as rookies into veterans, which takes time.
