Owning a piece of New England Sports history is not cheap. The latest thing to add to the collection would be the football used in the AFC Championship game. The ball sold at auction for $43,740, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell.
It was not a long auction as it only took 5 bids to hit the winning price of $43,740. The starting bid was set at $25,000 by former ball owner Laura Anthony, who was the lucky fan in attendance and caught the ball by Patriots WR Brandon LaFell.
The ball was auctioned off on Lelands.com, A well known sports memorabilia auction website. Site owner Joshua Evans showed high expectations for the ball saying in June that he would not be surprised if the ball sold for 6 or more digits in the auction. Although the ball did not sell for that much $40,000 is still a lot of money to spend on a slightly deflated football.
