Del Zotto, Boyle Need to Learn the Rules

During last night’s game the Islanders scored their third goal on the power play after Michael Del Zotto took a penalty for “throwing the stick” when he slid Brian Boyle’s fallen stick back to his teammate.

Here’s Boyle’s reaction to the penalty after the game (via Bergen Record)…

“I didn’t know it was a penalty. Michael didn’t. But it is my job to know that and his too. We were kind of confused.”

Del Zotto echoed Boyle’s confusion (via NY Times)…

“I’ve never seen it before. I didn’t know it was a penalty — obviously, if I knew it was, I wouldn’t have done it.”

Meanwhile, John Tortorella had this to say about the penalty…

“Oh for God’s sake…yes, he needs to know that rule. Did Michael say he didn’t know the rule?” Press tells him yes. “That scares the hell out of me.”

…this morning’s film session should be enjoyable for Del Zotto and Boyle.

…that’s a bad job by them. They need to know the rules. That goal ultimately lost the Rangers the game.
