As the NBA D-League Showcase got underway today, the Delaware 87ers made a roster move. The Sevens acquired Jared Cunningham via the D-League waiver process, the team announced.
Cunningham will be taking the roster spot of guard Nolan Smith, who was waived today as he suffered a torn left ACL, as sources told ESPN Basketball Insider Jeff Goodman.
Cunningham, the 6-foot-4, 195 pound guard was waived earlier this month by the Philadelphia 76ers, as he was acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers for the draft rights to Serhiy Lishuk. Also in the trade, the Sixers received the draft rights to Cenk Akyol and cash considerations.
In 19 games this season with the Clippers, he averaged 1.8 points, 0.5 assists, and 0.5 rebounds per game. Cunningham will have to come in and replace Smith’s production of 11.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.
