The accolades keep coming for Sacramento Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins. Today the 24-year-old center was named to the All-NBA second team for the first time in his five seasons in the league.
The former Kentucky star had a career-year, averaging 24.1 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.5 steals in 34.1 minutes per game. He was fifth in the league in scoring and third in rebounding, but played in just 59 games due to injury and illness.
Cousins tallied 220 points in the voting, including 18 first team votes. He joins a star-studded second team that includes Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge, Pau Gasol of the Bulls, Russell Westbrook from the Thunder and the Clippers’ Chris Paul.
Despite rumors to the contrary, Sacramento Kings Vice President of Basketball and Franchise Operations Vlade Divac firmly denied that Cousins is available via trade this offseason.
“Of course, everybody has their opinion, but right now, if we’re talking about today, yeah, DeMarcus is untradeable,” Divac said on SiriusXM NBA Radio. “He’s a guy who we’re going to try to build around and see where he’s going to take us.”
Armed with the sixth selection in the 2015 NBA Draft and more than $10 million in cap space, the Kings hope to reinvent their roster once again as they search for the right combination of players to place around Cousins and Rudy Gay.
Cousins joins Mitch Richmond, Chris Webber and Peja Stojakovic as the fourth player in the Sacramento-era of Kings basketball to be honored with an All-NBA selection. Stojakovic’s 2002-03 second team selection was the last time the Kings were represented.
Gay received three points in the voting as well.
