DeMarcus Cousins will not play in the final contest of the Sacramento Kings’ seven-game road trip.
The Kings starting center will sit out this evening’s match-up against the Minnesota Timberwolves because of right knee tendinitis. They have listed his injury as day-to-day.
The Kings have not played well this season when missing their starting center. They’ve lost all nine games in which Cousins has sat due to either injury or suspension this year. The last game Cousins missed was when the Kings fell 126-122 to the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 28.
Cousins has recorded at least 20 points in six of the Kings’ last eight games. During this road trip, Cousins averaged a healthy 21.7 points and 12.8 rebounds per game. He also shot the ball extremely well, 51.5 percent from the field, but turned the ball over an egregious 4.7 times a night.
Cousins has also recorded double-doubles in seven of their previous eight contests. On the season, the 23-year-old center has posted 41 total double-doubles. Alongside LaMarcus Aldridge of the Portland Trail Blazers and Kevin Love of the Timberwolves, Cousins remains one of three players to average at least 22 points and 11 rebounds a game this year.
In addition to Cousins, the Timberwolves will also being playing short-handed. Nikola Pekovic will not play tonight against the Kings due to a sore right ankle. Gorgui Deng will start in his place at center.
