Bobby Valentine is going to go with his own guy as bench coach meaning there is no room on the Red Sox bench for DeMarlo Hale. Many current and former players were lobbying for Hale to be a candidate for the manager job but since he was part of the leadership when the team collapsed he was not given a shot. Hale has already been offered a job as the AAA manager for the Orioles and will likely end up as an MLB manager within five years.
The Red Sox kept Dave Magadan as hitting coach, Gary Tuck as bullpen coach, and perennial fan target Tim Bogar as third base coach.
