Dempster Finally Gets Some Run Support And A Win

The Sox came home to friendly Fenway and faced the team they beat in 2007 to win the World Series.  Dempster started the game for the Sox and the Rockies were sending Nicasio.  Dempster has pitched well as of late, but has gotten little to no run support in his outings. Dempster would not have that problem in this outing.

Dempster pitched a scoreless first inning and then in the bottom of the 1st the Sox bats would get him a couple of runs of support.  Pedey hit an RBI single to score Ellsbury, Papi and Napoli were both walked and then Nava hit an RBI single to score Pedey.  Sox 2-0.  Dempster gave one of those runs right back in the 2nd when he gave up a HR to Rosario.  Sox 2-1.  In the bottom of the 2nd, the Sox got that run back and then some.  With 2 outs in the inning, Victorino hit a double and then Pedey, Papi and Napoli all hit RBI doubles to have the Sox leading 5-1.  In the 3rd the Sox were able to put a couple more runs on the scoreboard when Victorino hit a single and then Iglesias scored on a throwing error from Cuddyer.  The Sox scored the second run of the inning when Pedroia hit an RBI single to score Ellsbury.  Sox 7-1.  The Rockies would score their 2nd and final run off of Dempster in the 4th when Arenado hit an RBI single.  Sox 7-2.

In the bottom of the 4th it looked like Stephen Drew hit a no doubt HR to the camera well in CF, to everyone but the umpires.  It was ruled a triple and remained that way even after the umpires had a review.  No bother though because Iglesias would hit an RBI double to score Drew anyways.  Sox 8-2.  Dempster had himself another quality start and pitched through the 6th inning.  Dempster's pitching line for the night was 106 pitches, 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB and 4 Ks.  Alex Wilson came out for the 7th inning and didn't follow Dempster's lead.  Wilson gave up a single and then a run when Victorino botched a play in right while once again slamming himself into the wall.  Sox 8-3.  Wilson got two Ks and then was pulled in favor of Craig Breslow.  Breslow gave up an RBI single to Gonzalez and the Sox were now leading 8-4.  The Sox those runs right back in the bottom of the 7th when Iggy continued his hot streak with his 3rd hit on the night and then he was sent home with a sac fly by Pedroia.  Napoli then hit an RBI single to score Ellsbury.  Sox 10-4.  Breslow pitched a scoreless 8th and then the Sox added another run in the bottom of the inning with a Victorino sac grounder to score Salty.  Pedro Beato who was just called up when Morales was sent on the DL pitched a scoreless 9th and the Sox rolled to an impressive victory.
