Dennis Schroder suspended one game for below-the-belt strike to DeMarcus Cousins

The Atlanta Hawks rookie has received punishment for hitting DeMarcus Cousins below the belt on Tuesday.  Rod Thorn, NBA president of basketball operations, announced this morning that Dennis Schroder has been suspended one game for without pay for “striking” Cousins “in the groin”.

Schroder will serve his suspension tonight when the Hawks take on the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center.

“All I’ll say is it’s not a basketball play,” Kings coach Michael Malone said after practice yesterday of Schroder’s low-blow strike.  “And the same type of play happened last year between DeMarcus and O.J. Mayo and DeMarcus was suspended.  So I’ll just leave it at that.”

The play happened early in the fourth quarter of the Kings’ 105-100 loss to the Hawks two days ago at Sleep Train Arena.  You can watch a replay of the incident below.
