Derrick Favors Signs 4 year, $49 million extension with Jazz

The Jazz lock up their promising big man.

Derrick Favors has agreed to a four year, $49 million dollar extension with the Utah Jazz, according to Yahoo Sports. Favors, the 3rd pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, averaged 9.4 ppg and 7.1 rpg last season in playing 23.2 minutes a game. With Al Jefferson and Paul Milsap gone through free agency, Favors is expected to be the cornerstone for Utah’s front court. Favors will make around $12.2 million per season.

This is good business for both sides. Favors seems ready to take the next step in his career, and wanted to stay in Utah. Getting the deal done before October 31st prevents Favors from entering next offseason as a restricted free agent. With the deal done now, the Jazz will not have to fight off other teams who could have offered more money. Plus, $49 million over four years is a solid deal in the current big man market.
