Sports are great but also mean at times especially when it comes to injuries. It looks like the injury bug has bitten Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose again and it is not good.
Tonight, the Chicago Bulls announced that Rose suffered a medial meniscus tear of the right knee. This is not good for Rose as it looks like his season is all but over. Surgery has been scheduled as the timetable for his return is uncertain.
According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, this is the same knee that Rose suffered a tear in last season. To see Rose go down to injury again like this, makes basketball and sports fans very sick to their stomach. This is Rose’s third major knee injury during his career as we all remember when he tore the ACL in his left knee during the 2011-12 playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Bulls were never the same that series as the Sixers won game six in dramatic fashion.
He then missed the entire 2012-13 season and made his comeback last season, where he fell to injury again and only played in 10 games because of it. This season, it seemed like Rose was playing like his normal self as he played in the FIBA Basketball World Cup this past summer and looked explosive during the preseason. But it seems like it was all a mirage as his body broke down on him once again.
This season, Rose averaged 18.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 31.0 minutes per game. The question on every fans mind is this the last time he have seen D.Rose and if so, we will ever know how really great he could have been.
Update: According to Jeff Zillgitt of USA TODAY Sports, when Derrick Rose undergoes surgery for his torn medial meniscus, doctors will have three options they could take which could get him back on the court sooner.
In Zillgitt’s story, certified athletic trainer Jeff Stotts says that a removal or partial removal of the meniscus is common and if Rose decides that he could return to the court in about six weeks as there is a shorter recovery time.
