Egraphs reached out to me last week and asked if I was interested in running a little contest of sorts to give away a few of their really trendy autographs. Egraphs is the autograph of the future – an authenticated personal message from one of your favorite stars, both audio and handwritten, that you can share with your friends on your social networks. You can also pay extra to have a framed Egraph mailed to you.
See that picture above? That pic of Phil Coke kissing a baseball ever so tenderly? That image could have a handwritten message to you on the left with Coke's Herbie Hancock and then an audio message from him to you below. This is how a finished product from Austin Jackson (to Matthew Stafford of the Lions) looks:
Trust me, you want it. I want it. But I'm giving 'em away, so I can't have it. So, after this little story of mine, I'll let you know how you can possibly have it.
As you know, the Tigers are going to the World Series and could win it for the first time since 1984. I was planning to go to Detroit for Games 3-5 (I live in Atlanta now). I had miles to burn with Delta and my brothers and I were going to purchase some tickets off StubHub after we were left hanging out to dry in the Tigers' Virtual Waiting Room 4lyfe when tickets initially went on sale. I was two clicks of the mouse away from purchasing the flight before my conscience got the best of me. I exed out and said to myself I was not going to go.
I've waited my entire life to see the Tigers win the World Series and, ordinarily, I would drop everything and mortgage a limb for tickets. However, I ultimately made the adult decision to not leave my seven-month pregnant wife by herself with our dog for three days/nights.
The key implied word in the preceding paragraph is SACRIFICE, like sacrifice bunt. It can be awesome or the worst. In 2006, I sacrificed a college baseball practice to get home for a Game 6 that never happened. This time I'm sacrificing the World Series to not secretly piss off my beautiful wife and make sure she's okay, that I'm here for her if she needs me. Reprehensible behavior on my part, I know. I'm not willing to sacrifice her or my baby for seeing the games the way I want if I had it my selfish way. I'm still going to watch the games; it just won't be in Detroit with all of my other best friends. Such is the lyfe.
This is what I want to know now: What kind of sacrifices are you making to watch the games the way you want? Not everyone is going to be so responsible, right? I want to live vicariously through someone else. I neeeed this. Is somebody doing the complete opposite of what I'm doing? Telling your boss you have a deadly, 7-game disease? Are you dropping a month's paycheck on tickets? Are you the Eat 'Em Up Tigers guy? Are you going to start a fight with your wife or husband so you can watch the games by yourself? WHAT? Tell me, in detail, VIA EMAIL – [email protected], if the comments below are not working.
Submissions will be on the honor system. If you're really not making any kind of sacrifice to watch the games, then just tell me how you will be making the World Series experience epic. Best, funniest and plausible stories, judged by me, will win.
Some general rules & notes:
- Again, you're on your honor.
- If submitting via working comments below, please use your Twitter handle to comment or post your Twitter handle at the bottom of your comment, so I can reach out to you on Twitter afterward
- For me to reach out to you on Twitter via DM (preferred), you must be following me @detroit4lyfe. I will follow back so we can DM each other.
- I will relay the winners to Egraphs, so they can reach out to you to let you know how to claim your prize.
- When you claim your prize from Egraphs, the Tigers player has to be available. Currently, it's Phil Coke, Austin Jackson, Jose Valverde and Collin Balester (?), it seems. Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder have been available in the past, but they're sold out at the moment. They may be available again in the future.
- I think that's it.
- Oh. Go Tigers!
