Tonight’s loss to the Yankees is so painful because of what it could have been. The Red Sox needed to make a statement tonight in the Bronx and they were on their way to doing just that. The offense overcame a poor start by Dice-K and hit five home runs in the game. Ortiz showed he could still produce with two hits including a homer, V-Mart broke out of his slump with a homer from each side of the plate, and Wake was brilliant out of the pen; on his way to his first win this season.
Then came the bottom of the ninth and Papelbon. Two-run homer to tie it up by A-Rod, hit batter, walk-off two-run jack by Thames.
