The Sox headed to Cincy for one last interleague series before the regular season is over. The Sox had Rick Porcello on the mound, but he wouldn’t be much help to the Sox. Porcello gave up a grand slam in the 1st inning for the game to look pretty bleak! The Sox bats made up the damage and Price came out of the pen when the Sox had the lead. The Yankees lost last night, so now the magic number to win the East is down to 6.
The Sox scored in the top of the 1st against Reds pitcher Romano. The Sox loaded the bases with no outs, but were only able to get a single run when Moreland hit an RBI sac fly. Sox 1-0. In the bottom of the 1st, Porcello also loaded the bases with no outs. The Reds took much better advantage though as Gennett hit a grand slam to put the Reds up 4-1. Porcello settled down after that, but the damage was already done.
The Sox bats got cooking in the top of the 4th and they take the lead. Christian Vazquez hits an RBI double and then Rafael Devers hits a 3 run homer to have the Sox up 5-4. Porcello came back out for the bottom of the 4th, but Farrell would have that be his last inning. Price came out of the pen and once again looked pretty impressive. Price pitched 2.2 scoreless innings to help keep the Sox in the lead. Price also got his bat working when he hit a single in the top of the 7th. His smile when the bloop hit fell in was of pure joy. Price got two outs in the bottom of the 7th before Farrell came out to get him in favor of Addison Reed. Reed got the final out in the 7th and also pitched a scoreless 8th. Craig Kimbrel came out for the 9th inning and was able to get the win and the save.
