About 9/10 of you have already either heard or seen that Mark Buerhle threw a perfect game today. If you didn’t know that, well, SURPRISE! It happens about once every eight years in baseball, so it’s history.
In the 9th inning of this perfect game, though, Dewayne Wise (put in CF for the 9th inning) made this perfect-game saving catch to record the 1st out of the innning. I don’t think there was any doubt in anyone’s mind after this play that a perfect game was meant to be thrown on this day by Mark Buerhle of the Chicago White Sox.
With the win and the Tigers atrociously repetitive 2-1 loss, the White Sox are now tied for 1st place in the Central Division with the Tigers.
The two teams’ opponents this weekend? Each other. Four games. Tigers vs. White Sox. Dragons. Two of them. It’s going to get weird.
White Sox and fans, enjoy the perfect game while you can because you’re about to head into Detroit to face a bunch of hitting machines…oh wait. I’ll get to that in a later post. For now, enjoy the catch that now trumps Curtis Granderson’s walk-off saving catch earlier this season. Nice grab, Wise man.
UPDATE: Here’s the video until it is taken down by the MLB Video nazis:
