Inclement weather down in H-Town made it difficult for those of us not in attendance at Legacy Fighting Championship 11 to witness what most accounts sum up as being a night of great MMA action. While Legacy FC has quickly become one of the fastest growing regional promotions in the nation, Legacy 11 held significant meaning for those of us in North Texas as the HDNet televised card featured a number of DFWs highly acclaimed fighters. Unfortunately, most of us missed out on witnessing the action live as the HDNet feed was knocked off air due to severe thunderstorms in the Houston area.
Still, let us now overlook the fact that North Texas fighters went 3-1 for the night against some very, very talented opposition.
Dallas’ Clay Hantz had the unfortunate distinction of being the loan DFW representative to come back home with a loss as the Octagon MMA jiu-jitsu wiz was knocked out by Jorge Patino in the night’s main event. With the win Patino claims possession of the previously vacant Legacy lightweight championship title.
Fitness Fight Factory’s Evan “The Butcher” Cutts made a long-anticipated return to the cage and dispatched of Lee King in pretty impressive fashion. Cutts secured the win with a triangle choke in the second round.
Texas Fighting Syndicate’s Nelson Salas scored an upset of sorts in stopping the highly touted Angel Huerta in the opening round. Salas survived some pretty rocky moments early on but when Huerta appeared to have gassed himself out, Salas capitalized with a flurry of shots that prompted the referee to stop the fight.
In the evening’s opening televised bout Saekson Janjira trained bantamweight Ryan Benoit shocked most fight observers with an outstanding submission win over the heavily favored Cody Williams. The fight marked Benoit’s first fight back in nearly a year after suffering a leg injury in training nearly 12 months ago. Benoit showed no signs of wear as he used movement and angles to set up a hard takedown and ultimately secure a fight-ending rear naked choke in the opening round
