Well, this was a crazy game. Crazy! This game went 18 innings and lasted 7 hours and 6 minutes. This was also the longest game in Phillies & Diamondbacks history. There were 20 pitchers used in this game. In a nutshell, those who watched this game witnessed some history.
This game started out badly for the Phillies, when the Diamondbacks scored 3 runs in the first inning, on a Martin Prado homer and a Will Nieves single. The Diamondbacks continued to pile up runs, and were up 6-0 in the top of the 5th inning. In the bottom of the 5th inning though, Carlos Ruiz hit a solo homer; that was the first hit of the game for the Phillies. The Dbacks scored another run in the top of the 6th inning, but in the bottom of the 6th inning, Roger Bernadina hit a solo homer to center, that was his first hit as a Phillie, and it certainly was one to remember.
In the top of the 8th with the Phillies being down 7-4, Carlos Ruiz hit a single that scored Jimmy Rollins, and then they were only down by 2 runs. Later in the inning, Darin Ruf hit a 2 run homer that scored him and Carlos Ruiz; that tied the game. The Phillies came back from being down 7-1. Impressive.
The scoring stopped until the 18th inning, when Adam Eaton hit an RBI double to center. He hit that double off of, you guessed it, Casper Wells. The Dbacks ended up scoring 5 runs in the 18th, and ended up winning 12-7 in 18 innings.
